“Freedom House is more than just a place to work; it’s a family that treats me well, values my intelligence, and supports my pursuit of knowledge”

Q: Where are you from?A: Republic of Guinea and Senegal

Q: What school do you attend?
A: University of Massachusetts – Boston; I graduated from Boston International this year.

Q: Share a memory you have while at Freedom House.A: I recall back in 2020 when we were on Zoom every day and it was so tricky, and I always used the chats. I used to worry that my English would indeed make people laugh at me. However, all the staff members encouraged me to speak openly and ask for assistance. Knowing that each person at Freedom House had their accent and were from different parts of the world, made me joyful and less nervous.

Q: What is your favorite part about Freedom House?
A: The Road to Success round tables and the field trips are my two favorite aspects of Freedom House.
Q: What are you thankful for?A: Despite the difficulties, I am grateful for just being able to get out of bed each day. I appreciate everything the employees at Freedom House did to help me both financially and emotionally. I’m grateful for all the lovely folks who have always looked out for me and wanted the best for me.

Q: How has Freedom House impacted you?
A: I am getting back in touch with Freedom House since they were the first to hire me after everyone else turned me down because I lacked the required skills for their organization/ company. But Freedom House is more than just a place to work; it’s a family that treats me well, values my intelligence, and supports my pursuit of knowledge. They showed me how to be myself and prioritize my needs over everyone else’s.

Q: Share an inspirational quote
A: When someone tells me ‘no’, it doesn’t mean I can’t do it, it simply means I can’t do it with them.” – Karen E. Quinones Miller
